One name comes to mind when asked who has had the most influence on martial arts– Bruce Lee. He was the first to suggest that no way was the way. And this was during a time when no one knew what the most dominant fighting style was.
To show my gratitude for the influence Bruce Lee had on my life, and countless others, I wanted to celebrate his 71st birthday by illustrating him.
Happy birthday Bruce Lee thanks for everything!
Check out the painting I did of this here: Bruce lee Painting By Adam Daly.
Since the inception of the mixed martial arts we now know that the “best” style is one of many styles. In particular wrestling, jiu-Jitsu, and muay-thai combined.
Bruce Lee had a large impact on my life as a child. I enjoyed martial arts and was intrigued by unarmed combat. I wasn’t a violent person at all. I was actually a nerd (chess champion of my junior high school lol). But I was competitive, and I wanted an answer to the question– which style was the best. I began training and eventually put my skills to the test by competing in two mixed martial arts matches.
Though I didn’t win I learned a lot from the experience, and my opponent and I both had a great time competing against one another. In fact, we hung out in the locker room afterwards and discussed technique, the fight, and the respect we had for each other.
Contrary to what many believe about MMA it’s not full of violent meat heads. Martial arts has taught me a lot about self-control and discipline. These are teachings that Bruce Lee himself believed. It was never just about being violent or physical. It was about growing as a human being.
“Ever since I was a child I have had this instinctive urge for expansion and growth. To me, the function and duty of a quality human being is the sincere and honest development of one’s potential.”
